When You’re Waiting & God is Working…
If there’s one thing we don’t love as humans, it’s waiting. Waiting in traffic. Waiting for answers. Waiting for God to do something, anything, that looks like progress.
Honestly? Sometimes I think God lets us pick the slowest line at Target just to build character. But here’s the truth I want to start this blog with, because it’s a truth I’ve had to learn again and again:
Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean God isn’t doing it.
We live in a world that rewards instant everything. Instant updates. Instant responses.
Instant Amazon shipping. (Unless it’s the one thing you actually need today. Then it mysteriously becomes “arrives in 5–7 business days.”)
But God doesn’t work on a human timeline. He isn’t rushed. He isn’t late. He isn’t pacing Heaven hoping things magically fall into place. He moves with purpose, wisdom, and perfect timing — even when it feels like nothing is happening on our end.
The Hidden Work of God
So much of God’s goodness happens underground, behind the scenes, and beneath the surface. Roots grow before flowers bloom. Foundations are built before homes stand. Healing begins long before we feel whole again.
And so often, God is preparing you before He reveals what He prepared for you. Maybe you’re in that season right now. The quiet one. The in-between one. The “God… hello? You there?” one. If so, I want you to hear this:
You’re not stuck… you’re being steadied.
You’re not forgotten… you’re being formed.
You’re not behind… you’re being built.
The Bible Has a Lot to Say About Waiting
God is not slow in keeping His promises (2 Peter 3:9). The vision waits for an appointed time (Habakkuk 2:3). And those who wait on the Lord? They renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31). Waiting isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.
Waiting isn’t a side note in Scripture; it’s practically a theme. Nearly every major figure in the Bible went through a waiting season before stepping into what God promised. And honestly? That makes me feel a lot better about my own timeline.
Abraham waited decades for the promise to become a reality. And when it took longer than expected, he did what we all do: tried to “help God out.”
(We love a relatable Bible character.)
Joseph waited in a pit, in slavery, in prison… Not because he did something wrong, but because God was positioning him. Every delay was actually direction.
David waited after being anointed king. Imagine being told you’re chosen and then immediately going back to watching sheep. Talk about humble beginnings.
Hannah waited with heartbreak. She prayed through tears, but she never stopped coming back to God.
Noah waited in the ark, floating on endless water, probably wondering if he’d ever see dry land again. And yet, God remembered him.
Even Jesus waited for the fullness of time (Galatians 4:4). If the Son of God Himself followed Heaven’s timeline, we can trust it too.
Here’s What Scripture Reminds Us:
1. God is not slow. “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise…” — 2 Peter 3:9
His timing isn’t lagging; it’s aligning.
2. There is an appointed time. “Though the vision tarries, wait for it… It will not delay.” — Habakkuk 2:3
God has a calendar you can’t see yet.
3. Waiting builds strength, not weakness. “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31
Waiting is weight training for your spirit.
4. God acts on behalf of those who wait. “Blessed are all who wait for Him.” — Isaiah 30:18
Your waiting is not wasted; it’s watched by Heaven.
5. Patience produces something powerful. “Let patience have her perfect work…” — James 1:4
God grows what He wants to give.
The Thread Through Every Story?
Waiting isn’t God withholding something from you. Waiting is God preparing something in you.
Every Bible story shows us this: The waiting season is never the wasted season.
A Prayer for Your Waiting Season
Lord,
Teach me to trust You when I can’t see what’s ahead. Help me believe that You’re working in the silence, moving in the unseen, and preparing something better than I could imagine. Grow my patience, steady my heart, and remind me that Your timing is always right, even when it’s not mine.
Amen.
One Last Thing Before You Go
If you’re waiting… don’t give up. Don’t grow weary. Don’t assume the pause means “no.” Sometimes the pause is the exact moment God strengthens your faith, deepens your roots, and sets you up for the very thing you’ve been praying for. He hasn’t forgotten you. He’s working. And the timing, when it comes, will make perfect sense.
